The Oyster perpetual Sea-Dweller by Rolex celebrates 50 years!

We present the new version launched at the International Watch Fair in Basel (23-30 March 2017).

Rolex presents the new Oyster Perpetual Sea-Dweller, the legendary professional diving watch created by the Brand in 1967. To pay tribute to the first model, the new Sea-Dweller bears its name in red on the dial. The case of the new version has been enlarged to 43 mm and encloses the new automatic caliber 3235 with 70 hours of power reserve, available for the first time on a watch of the Rolex Professional category. Another first for this watch is the Cyclops magnifying lens on the glass at 3 o’clock which allows for better data reading. The new Sea-Dweller, like any Rolex watch, boasts the Superlative Chronometer certification redefined by Rolex in 2015 to guarantee out-of-the-ordinary performance on the wrist.

The Oyster Perpetual Sea-Dweller, which is water resistant to 1220 m, features one of the inventions which have contributed to its fame: the helium escape valve, patented by Rolex in 1967.

The 60-minute graduated, unidirectional rotating bezel of the new Sea-Dweller, in black Cerachrom (scratch resistant and unalterable ceramic produced and patented by Rolex) allows for safe and precise reading of diving and decompression times. On the black dial, the large hour and hand markers are coated in Chromalight, a luminescent substance which allows for perfect legibility even in the dark.

The Oyster case of the Sea-Dweller is crafted from a solid block of corrosion-resistant 904L steel. The case back is hermetically screwed down, the winding crown, equipped with the Triplock triple waterproofing system and protected by specific guards crafted in the body of the middle case, is securely screwed down to the case as if it were a submarine hatch.

The new Sea-Dweller is completed by the 904L stainless steel Oyster bracelet with solid links and Oysterlock safety clasp. This bracelet also avails of a double extension system allowing the watch to be worn over a diving suit up to 7 mm thick: the Fliplock extension link allows the bracelet to be extended by 26 mm and the Rolex Glidelock system allows to precisely adjust the bracelet length in increments of 2 mm for a total of approx. 20 mm.
