Luigi Verga Orologi presents “The anatomy of time: forms, ornaments, complications”

Yesterday, 1 October, Luigi Verga Orologi hosted an evening dedicated to the presentation of The anatomy of time: forms, ornaments, complications, an exhibition showcasing a selection of vintage timepieces from a private collection.

The event introduced a selection of pocket watches and ladies’ timepieces from some of the most prestigious Swiss watchmaking Maisons, available for purchase at Luigi Verga Orologi until 10 October.

The collection

In fine watchmaking, measuring time has never been merely a functional act. Throughout its history, the watch has become a meeting point between mechanical invention, aesthetic research and decorative art: an object in which the precision of the movement coexists with the complexity of form and the richness of ornamentation.

The selection of pocket watches, dating from 1910 to 1969, showcases different expressions of watchmaking craftsmanship. From the most understated models to those featuring sophisticated complications, each timepiece houses within its case a mechanical architecture that transforms the measurement of time into a true demonstration of ingenuity and precision.

Alongside the pocket watches, the selection features ladies’ timepieces in which technical expertise intertwines with decorative artistry. Gold, platinum, enamels, diamonds and precious gemstones transform cases, dials and bracelets into authentic surfaces of artistic expression, creating watches in which functionality meets the precious dimension of the jewel watch.

Collezione

Forms, ornaments and complications thus become elements of a single anatomy. The case, dial, movement and decoration are not separate components, but parts of a unified language in which technical mastery and beauty meet and complement one another.

The selection invites visitors to observe the watch both through its visible elements and its hidden inner workings, following the dialogue between what appears on the surface and what the mechanism conceals within. From precious exteriors to sophisticated movement architecture, every detail reveals a different expression of watchmaking craftsmanship and the aesthetic sensibility of its era.

The anatomy of time: forms, ornaments, complications will be on view at Luigi Verga Orologi, Corso Vercelli 19, until 10 October 2026, only by appointment. The timepieces featured in the selection will be available for purchase throughout the exhibition.
