TUDOR introduces the new "PELAGOS FXD ALINGHI RED BULL RACING EDITION" : a time-only watch and a chronograph version
Swiss watchmaking House TUDOR presents two new PELAGOS FXD creations to celebrate its partnership, which began in 2022, with the America's Cup team Alinghi Red Bull Racing.
There are two PELAGOS FXD "Alinghi Red Bull Racing Edition" models: a time-only version and a chronograph, both made of an unprecedented material. These watches combine a hi-tech carbon composite - never before used by TUDOR - with titanium and steel, just like the hydrofoil AC75 (America's Cup 75) racing yacht.
The case, which features fixed strap bars, has a diameter of 42 mm for the time-only model and 43 mm for the chronograph version. Water-resistant to 200 metres, it is made of black carbon composite with a matt finish while the case back is crafted in steel with the engraved "Alinghi Red Bull Racing" logo.
Both configurations feature a bidirectional 120-notch rotating bezel in titanium with a matt black carbon composite insert with a 60-minute graduation filled with Super-LumiNova Grade X1, for easy tracking of countdowns at the start of regattas. The screw-down crowns adorned with the company logo and the chronograph pushers are also made of titanium.
Wearing the same hue of the hull of the AC75, the matte dials put legibility first and foremost. While both dials are finished in Alinghi Red Bull Racing Team Blue with a red-tipped second hand, the Chronograph model features red accents around the counters to further hint at the aesthetics of the AC75, namely the red stripes on the hull. On the 45° angled flange, between 10 and 2, a subtle “Alinghi Red Bull Racing” mention overarches the dial’s layout. The signature square hour-markers and “Snowflake” hands, designed back in the sixties by TUDOR to offer larger luminous surfaces and thus improve legibility, are fashioned from luminescent ceramic composite for optimal legibility in challenging conditions.
The new PELAGOS FXD “Alinghi Red Bull Racing Edition” are powered by in-house manufacture automatic movements.
The PELAGOS FXD displaying hour, minute and seconds is equipped with the COSC-certified Calibre MT5602. Beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour /4 Hz, it has a variable-inertia balance wheel with non-magnetic silicon hairspring, a bidirectional tungsten monobloc rotor and guarantees a 70-hour power reserve.
The Manufacture MT5813 movement that powers the PELAGOS FXD CHRONO model displays hours, minutes, seconds, chronograph and date functions.
Boasting a 70-hour power reserve and a silicon balance spring, the Manufacture Chronograph Calibre MT5813 is certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC), with its performance exceeding the standards set by this independent institute at -2 and +4 seconds’ variation per day, tested on every fully assembled chronograph. A high-performance movement, it was crafted in the purest watchmaking tradition, with a column wheel mechanism and vertical clutch.
Derived from the Manufacture Calibre Breitling 01 chronograph, with a high-precision regulating organ developed by TUDOR and exclusive finishes, this movement is the result of a lasting collaboration between the two brands.
The new PELAGOS FXD 'Alinghi Red Bull Racing Edition' are completed by a blue single-piece fabric strap with red accents and titanium “D” buckle. Woven in France on 19th century Jacquard looms by the Julien Faure company in the St-Etienne region, its manufacturing quality, robustness and comfort on the wrist are unique.
